The Day Has Come to be Released!

In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we have the opportunity to serve one another through callings or "jobs" that we do in or at church. For the last 17 months I have been serving as the Primary President in my ward or congregation. It's a job where you are the leader over all the children ages 18 months to 12 years old. It's a tough one. Your job is to make sure that the children have solid gospel instruction each week at church for two hours, along with making sure that teachers and leaders show up to do their parts as well. It's been a real growing experience for me. I am a very organized and totally in control type of person. This calling really doesn't allow you to be like that. You have to be flexible, patient and extremely on top of you game each week.

So, the long and short of this whole explanation is that I was released yesterday from being the Primary President. I have now been called to teach a weekly religion class to young adults, ages 18-31. It's a great place to be. I will meet with these "kids" on Wednesday evenings and share with them my testimony of certain gospel principles. I am really hoping that they will then draw closer to their Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and establish their own testimonies of the gospel. I am also hoping that these "kids" will want to get together in social settings outside of church and form a nice little group of friends and support for each other. We will see what we can accomplish!

So while I am sad to be leaving Primary, I am thrilled with the idea of having a chance to increase my own gospel knowledge through teaching others. One drawback, is that it does mean that I have to go back to Relief Society on Sundays. I don't know if I am ready for that or not! I told my friend yesterday that we should head out for "Dunkin Doughnuts" during Sunday School. Then we remembered that Daren is the gospel doctrine teacher and that probably wouldn't be such a good thing. I am sure Relief Society will be just fine but I haven't been there in over 5 years and ...it's a little too "grown-uppie" for me and my ADD! EEK!
