Back from a Great Week-end and a New Book by Hilary Weeks!

Omaha-September 2008
Snider's and the Crockett's Cameron, Grant and Christopher--Fun at the Zoo!
There has to be at least one McDonald's trip on every vacation. RIGHT?!
The kids and their Sunday dress! We went to the Visitor's Center for church! FUN!
Laura and Cyrus--Who is holding who?
I had a fabulous week-end in Omaha with my dear friend, Carrie and her family. We also brought along a student, Davin, who is from Cambodia. She is living with Carrie right now! The husbands stayed home to get some much needed work done. At least that is what they told us! And poor Colin had to work as well!--That's what happens when you are 16 and need money for a car, gas and a future mission. :)

Carrie and I had big plans for the kids. The kids had other plans. It seemed the kids were happy swimming in the hotel pool, eating free food and just being together. That was actually OK.

While in Omaha I got to do a little shopping at Barnes and Noble. Thank heavens for big cities. I needed a "book-fix." I happened into the very small LDS section and noticed that Hilary Weeks has a book out. A little book, but a book filled with wonderful gems. I quickly grabbed one for myself and also one for Carrie.

I'll share just a bit with my blog readers and friends and then if you like what you read you can go and by your own little book! Hilary Weeks is an LDS songwriter and singer. She has teamed up with a friend of mine, Tyler Castleton, and they have written and performed some wonderful pieces together. Hilary's new book is entitled: "Believe In What You're Doing; Believe In Who You Are." I love the title. At the end of each chapter she leaves you with a little "believe" quote. I want to copy them and put the all over my house.

One chapter that really hit me is entitled, "The Spirit Is Ready." Hilary quotes from Elder Robert D. Hales, an LDS apostle. He says: "If we listen and obey, we will be guided by His Spirit and do His will in our daily endeavors." Hilary goes on to explain how she puts quotes up on her mirrors in her bathroom to memorize while she is doing her hair.--I think she has fabulous hair!

The quote she shares in this chapter is from Parley P. Pratt. It talks about what the Spirit is. He shares the following:
"[The Spirit] quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges, expands, and purifies all the natural passions and affections, and adapts them, by the gift of wisdom, to their lawful use. It inspires, develops, cultivates, and matures all the fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings, and affections of our nature. It inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness, and charity. It develops beauty of person, form, and features. It tends to health, vigor, animation, and social feeling. It develops and invigorates all the faculties of the physical and intellectual man. It strengthens and invigorates and gives tone to the nerves. It short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being." Don't you just love that. I do!

Hilary leaves us with this quote in that chapter about the spirit. She says: "Believe that the Holy Ghost desires to be your companion and that you will find a true and loyal friend in him."

WOW! Have a great day!
