A Meme For A "Brain-dead" Mom

It's Saturday morning and I just feel so "brain-dead." The children have been in school for two days and I just got finished up teaching for the summer. I have nine days off to pull my life, my house and my materials for next semester together. I also have to start preparing my institute lessons for my church calling and get the primary supplies in order to hand over to the next primary president. Still haven't been told when I might be being released. The merry-go-round just won't let me off! :)

So I borrowed a "meme" from another friends blog and this is what I share with you today. ENJOY!

1. What television show are you willing to stay up late to watch? Right now it’s the Olympics. I am not a late night TV watcher. I love to read at night when the house is quiet!

2. What is the nearest big city to your home? What do you mean by “Big City?” I live in the middle of cornfields and in a town of 30,000. Grand Island is 45,000 people and that’s 45 miles away. I think now that that is going to the big city! But Lincoln, NE is 110 miles away and Omaha, NE is 180 miles away. Denver is like 300 miles. *That is a very long answer to a very unimportant question. JUST COME VISIT ME ANYTIME! I MEAN IT!

3. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how well do you keep secrets? I am probably a 10 when it's really important. But truly, I love being told secrets but as my blog friend Marilyn says: “I'm a chatterbox and that seems to always get me into trouble.” I genuinely love people and care about what is going on in their lives.

4. What kind of driver are you? Courteous? Aggressive? Slow? I use to be a very aggressive driver. I could make it to Daren's house in just a little over an hour. We lived 99 miles a part from each other. That was back in the days of my single life. Today I am a much slower and calmer driver. I live in small town USA and that helps A LOT! No one really honks or does mean things to one another. I also don’t have my car horn hooked up right now so I can’t even honk at someone if I wanted.

But just wait until I hit the big city. When I drive back to Utah and feel myself on the I-80 coming through Parley’s Canyon I can just feel my whole self just tensing up for those crazy UTAH drivers. There is nothing like ‘em.

5. When was the last time you had a really bad week? I think by days not by weeks. I there have been some really bad days but it seems to blow over. I would have to say that 2008 was a year of ups and downs. Health issues with Daren and I played a little part in that, but I believe every cloud really does have a silver lining.

6. When someone smiles at you, do you smile back? I try. I love living in a place where I can pretty much see someone I know all the time. I love the people in this city. They are so kind and caring. People say that when I walk into a room that I “light it up.” I hope that is the case. I struggle with this in the LDS ward I attend because of some past history there, but I am really trying to move past that and be the person I know I really am. So, yes, I always try to smile. It takes too much effort not to.

7. Do you know anyone whose life has been touched by adoption? My niece and nephew; my counselor in Primary; my children’s friends; my parent’s best friend who runs an adoption agency in Utah. I really know many, many people who have either given up a baby or have been on the receiving end of a baby. I love the song by Michael McLean about adoption. He sings about from “God’s arms to her arms to yours.” I really feel strongly about birth mothers that will give up their babies for a better life than they can give them. I adore birth mothers who do not choose abortion.
8. What was your favorite cartoon when you were a child? I really loved cartoons but I fantasized often as a child about living in a time like you saw on the “Jetsons.” I wanted so much to have some of those great gadgets. I really still wish we could invent some of them. Wouldn’t life be even easier than it is now? I really loved the machine that dispensed the meals. That is so cool!

9. What kind of music do you listen to while you drive? I listen to Christian rock. There is a great radio station here in town. One of my friends is the DJ on it and I love to listen to her. I love to listen to top 40 music. I really like to know what is popular. My kids think I am crazy because I know more about their music than they do. J Right now I am really stuck on ABBA. So needless to say my poor children are having to listen to ABBA in the kitchen, ABBA in the bathroom, ABBA in the car, ABBA everywhere.

10. When was the last time you bought a clock? And in which room did you put it? I don’t know. I don’t really like clocks. I just use my cell phone. I quite wearing a watch a few years ago and love the freedom. As far as buying a clock…I did buy one for the room downstairs so the kids could see what time it was for piano practicing and. …playing way too many videos games.
